As Ye Sow...
Isn't it ironic.
The Hollywood commie-symp, left-leaning, pinko directors and writers that The Right rallies against all so often are, to a certain extent, one of the causes of a McCain/Palin type ticket. Stretching it a bit? I don't think so...
Think back to the 50's and 60's. TV shows and movies were filled with people who, generally, had pretty solid values and more than a couple of brain cells to rub together. There were "dumb" characters on the show, but they usually were there as foils to the main, intelligent, lead character. The idiot characters were treated, well, they were treated like idiots.
Come the 90's and 00's.
We now have TV shows where the bumbling character with the improbably unlikely background is the lead. The intelligent, thoughtful, character is relegated to the supporting roll of feeding straight lines to the idiots, at best, marginalized into "that egg-head neighbor" at worst. Weirdness and lack of expertise is viewed as a positive attribute.
Can you imagine this plot being pitched in the 60's?

"Hey Barnie...let me tell of an idea for a TV series..."Gee, seems like this plot was pulled out of the dust-bin and's getting pitched to US. Let's just hope it won't be playing on a screen near us any time soon.
"We get this gal from Alaska, hunts moose, ex-beauty queen, small-town mayor... we get her coming down to Washington as a VP Candidate!"
"Naw, Maurie.... you're nuts..."
"No, No... let me go on. And then, through a trick of fate SHE BECOMES PRESIDENT! So, she moves into the White House with her beer-drinking hubby and they become the "First Mushers!" You know... dog mushers??? Work with me here Barnie... "
"Maurie, you have GOT to be kidding..."
"Yeh, yeh, and we call it "The Snow White House". Get it??? "SNOW WHITE?" Like, Alaska has snow, she's a princess....placed in the position of most powerful person in the world.... "
"Maurie, Maurie, Maurie.... those two hour martini lunches have finally gotten to you. Who would buy it?"
"Yeh, I guess you're right... crazy idea."
