BANG!
We Democrats have developed a fine-honed skill over the years of being
able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. And, those stupid
defeats have ended us up in the mess we are now in. An example...
Six years ago when Paull Wellstone died in a plane crash the state was united in sympathy. However, a couple of gung-ho DFL-ers (that's Democrat Farm Labor for those out of state) went over the top and politicized the memorial service. Walter Mondale, named to take Paul's place on the fall senatorial ballot, went down to defeat. Norm Coleman got in...and the power shifted in Washington.
Mondale would have carried on as Paul's voice. But he wasn't there.
The war in Iraq happened.
Bush's crowd ran rough-shod over the constitution.
Well... you know... Worst. President. Ever.
He could have been blunted by a thoughtful voice from the Democrats, but we blew it.
We've now got a week ahead of us. We should have one target: get the GOP out of Washington. And the big question? The one that wakes me up at 2AM? Will the die-hard Hillary fans cut off their noses to spite their faces and sour the convention. I love Hillary to pieces. Really. But folks, Deal With It. If we intend to kick some serious posterior in November we had damn well pull together this week. Are the Hillary supporters really that serious about making her the Ralph Nader of 2008?
We shall see.

OK, turnabout is fair play, fella. Don't mean to shift focus (slightly) but how in the world did you cop "obamausa.com?"
You know, I'm getting just curmudgeonly enough in my old age to vote for whichever presidential candidate says the fewest nasty things about his/her opponent. Getting really, really tired of all this focus on the awfulness of using the wrong fork for the salad stuff. But that's just me.

How did I cop it? One evening I was bored and did the "Gee, I wonder if someone owns this yet?" thing. I got obamausa.com, obamausa.org, and obamarules.com. Right place, right time, I guess. I've been holding it in my back pocket until the Time Has Arrived.

You, curmudgeonly? Perish the thought!

David Brooks covers this subject in his op/ed in today's NYT, Brooks is a Republican who has written some very kind essays about Obama this year.

you have to sign up to see it.
I thin he is right on here.

Good link, Bert. There's that whole "authentic" thing. Ring true, and folks will rally to your cause. Sound like you're parroting a party line and you'll lose the folks on the edge of the party.
"Hi Daddy!" is authentic. If Barack can say "Hi Electorate!" in the same way the election will be a lot more likely to sway in his direction.
